McHenry County Suicide Prevention Task Force
The McHenry County Suicide Prevention Task Force’s mission is to raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention, provide education, implement prevention programs and provide support for those affected by suicide within McHenry County.
The Suicide Prevention Task Force is a collaboration between NAMI McHenry County, Northwestern Medicine, Independence Health and Therapy, McHenry County Coroner’s office, Crisis Services McHenry County, McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, Crystal Lake PD, McHenry PD, Pioneer Center for Human Services, Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, Thresholds, Rosecrance, McHenry County MHB, Samaritan Counseling Center, Survivors of Suicide Support Group, Recovery International, Owens and Associates Counseling and Therapy Center LLC, School District 158 and other community members.

Annual Events
A Day of Remembrance: This event takes place to honor the memories and legacies of those taken from us by suicide and to support the struggles of friends and family through sharing stories of hope and healing; in collaboration with the members of the Survivors of Suicide Grief Support Group.
Suicide Prevention, Mental Health, and Recovery Conference: A full-day conference organized in collaboration with the McHenry County Mental Health Board to provide education on mental health and suicide prevention to community members and professionals.
Out of the Darkness Campus Walks, McHenry: The Out of the Darkness Campus Walks are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) signature student fundraising series designed to engage youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide.

QPR: Question, Persuade, and Refer is an evidence-based practice that, like CPR, is an emergency response to someone in crisis. Go to mchenrycountyqpr.org for more information about QPR or how to arrange a free QPR training for you or your organization. Several members of the Suicide Prevention Task Force are able to provide QPR training.
